JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "Escargotian Dreams" is a relaxed, bossa nova chart that I wrote for my limited instrumentation jazz ensemble when I was teaching at Hayden High School in Topeka, KS. Solo changes are written in the Tpt. 1 part (but a Piano solo is featured on the recording) I later re-scored this chart for full jazz ensemble. The title "Escargotian Dreams" was decided by the students in the band and created the often debated question: "Is this about dreaming about snails...or is it about the dreams that snails have?" Regardless, I think you'll enjoy this relaxing tune.

Instrumentation: * 5 Saxes (AATTB) * 4 Tpts. * 4 Trbs. (no Bass required) * Guitar * Piano (suggested voicings written out for use if needed) * Bass (written out line w/o chord changes) * Drum Set

(JAZZ ENSEMBLE) - "Shark Sandwich" is a half-time, shuffle funk groove (swung eighth note feel) that includes the tempo marking "Tasty" shuffle funk. Solo changes are written out in the Bari Sax part, but the tune is built on a four measure groove that is designed to be opened for solos (with the Bari being the last soloist with backgrounds playing the chart out) The title is surely known by any enthusiast of the movie "This is Spinal Tap!" (as is my other chart "Cups and Cakes") but hopefully it doesn't get the two word review that was given to this Spinal Tap album in the movie (you Spinal Tap lovers know what I mean...) JAZZ ENSEMBLE - This arrangement of the classic Carpenter's tune is written in a relaxed "Shuffle-funk" Ballad style (swing eighth notes). Starting with an introduction gradually adding each section of the band to the groove, melodic content is then featured throughout the saxes, trumpets (flugels) and trombones. Solo changes are written in Alto 1 (on Soprano Sax) and Tpt. 3 (on Flugel) but the arrangement is designed to allow for either or both soloists (if desired).
