JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "It's Just a Blues...Isn't It?" is a medium swing altered 16 bar blues form in "F" The melody first time features a trio (Flute (Alto 1), Tpt. 2, and Bari Sax) then adds more instruments the second time through. Solo changes are written in Tpt. 2, but solo changes are included on all parts for the open solos section. The title is in tribute to a former colleague of mine who (while leading our big band and not remembering what type of chart was coming up in performance) would always say "...It's Just a Blues, Isn't It?"

JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "It Is What It Is..." is a "down & dirty" even eighths funk groove in cut time (heavy backbeat feel.) Solo changes are written in Alto 1, Tpt. 3, and Guitar parts, but solo changes are added at the bottom of all parts to open up solos.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "Cups and Cakes" Written in the Calypso style/groove of "St. Thomas" this fun chart is one you're sure to enjoy! Solo changes are written in Tenor 1 and Tpt. 2 parts. Feel free to add optional percussion instruments to the groove if you like.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "The One Note What?!?' is based on the tune "The One Note Samba." It's a half-time shuffle funk feel (swing eighths) The melodic line is featured in each of the wind sections throughout (Trombones, Saxes, and Trumpets) Solo changes are written in Alto 1 and Tpt. 3 (although the featured recording has Guitar replacing the Tpt. solo) Hopefully you enjoy my spin on this classic tune.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "The Road Not Taken" was commissioned by the McPherson High School Jazz Band (McPherson, KS) in memory of Ben Richter. "The Road Not Taken" alternates between an even eighth ECM'ish style (based loosely on the tune Morocco by The Rippingtons) and sections of half-time funk feel. Written solo changes are in Tenor 1 and Guitar, with a final solo section that was written to add increasing soloists to build the chart to its conclusion.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE - "We've Only Just Begun" is an Alto Sax feature written in a relaxed jazz waltz style. This arrangement is a great Alto Sax feature to showcase your lead Alto player. Based on the popular song by The Carpenters, it features moments of interesting harmonies and I feel is a great style for this classic song. I hope you enjoy this arrangement.

This arrangement of the classic Carpenter's tune is written in a Salsa/Latin style. Starting with the classic piano opening (written in a montuno pattern) melodic content is then featured throughout the wind parts. Solo changes are written in Tenor 2 and Tpt. 2.
